Welcome to the official web site of the Stephen Fischman Vocal Studio. Our studio is
dedicated to teaching the vocal technique that was predominant during the first half of
the Twentieth Century, a period otherwise known as the "Golden Age of Opera."
The "Golden Age of Opera" was an era notable for its abundance of stellar artists, where operatic legends such as Enrico Caruso, Rosa Ponselle, and Jussi Björling, to name but a few, graced the stages of all of the major international opera houses.
By properly utilizing the diaphragm to lift their tones high in the head where they could resonate freely, the singers of that period were able to easily project their voices to the furthermost recesses of the largest auditoriums without the aid of artificial amplification.
In his booklet, "Resonant Singing: Vocal Technique from the Golden Age of Opera," Mr. Fischman clearly explains this technique in simple step-by-step instructions. Commenting on his explanation, internationally renowned opera critic Stephen Hastings, whose reviews from Italy appear regularly in "Opera News" magazine, wrote:
